Highland offers natural resource-focused investment strategies including oil and gas and timberland. Our natural resource investment strategies offer current cash flow, long-term appreciation, and a hedge against inflation and currency movements.

Due to the technical nature of natural resource investing, Highland has partnered with sector-specific experts with long-term track records. For oil & gas investments, we have teamed with the experienced oil & gas investment and operations firm, PetroCap, to enhance our oil & gas investment strategy. For our timberland strategy, we partner with timberland investing specialists Pinnacle Timberland Management.

Strategy Types

Oil & Gas 

  • Target direct investments in ongoing oil and gas development projects
  • Focus on smaller independent operators and their projects
  • Typically consider investments between $5 million to $30 million per project
  • Provides investors with current cash flow, long-term appreciation, and a hedge against inflation and currency movements
  • Also provides investors with the ability to directly own oil and natural gas reserves
  • Partnership with PetroCap

Timberland

  • Currently own over 300,000 acres of U.S. timberlands as part of our timberland strategy
  • Seek to purchase and operate U.S. timberlands with focus on smaller properties (under 100,000 acres)
  • Strategy pursues providing investors with current cash flow, long-term appreciation, and a hedge against inflation

Mr. Britain is a Partner at Highland Capital Management, L.P., and a Managing Director at Falcon E&P Opportunities GP, LLC. Mr. Britain currently serves on the Board of Directors of Blackwell BMC LLC, Safety-Kleen Systems and Carey International.
